4 Ways to Save Money, Time & Effort When Designing Your Dream Home
Throughout my career as an interior designer, I have been continuously evolving and developing the way I run my projects. Through trial and error, and more recently, renovating my own property, I have developed an incredibly efficient system and process that my team, trades and clients love to follow.
Our team follows a set process for every home we work on. This is a key factor in the success of our projects for the following reasons:
Having a set system to follow encourages a healthy momentum and pace for the project. We make sure to share our process with our clients when we first meet, as well as with our trades. It helps clients understand the order and flow of events, so no one is ever left wondering, “What next?”When clients aren’t left in the dark, they are able to enjoy the journey and feel excited about the progress of their home.
By following our system, we save both ourselves and our clients a lot of time. We use a handful of incredibly efficient technology programs to help us organise every detail of the process from initial concept to final handover. As an example, we’re able to synchronise the arrivals of numerous furniture orders to ensure they are installed within the same week as opposed to dribs and drabs over a few months. Another benefit to our well-planned process is our Trade Day - where we align all trade site measures and visits into one day, minimising the inconvenience to you having trades traipsing through the home.
With saving time, you’re also saving an incredible amount of money. When you have a direct system and protocol to follow, contingencies and risks are eliminated. For example, we have a checklist of questions to ask our builders that will help the other trades involved provide their services quickly and efficiently. Our clients who follow through with the full redesign package, believe it is an incredible investment as the money spent on our expertise and consultancy is always returned in the time and money we save for them. When there is a clear process outlined for all parties involved, expectations are easier to manage - trades will know when we need them to begin work on the project, the client will know when we will be sourcing styling items as opposed to appliances and so on. Communication is far more clear when we’re all on the same page!
Without a clear system to follow, decisions are made from a place of reaction and rarely consider the entire process, which exposes the project to multiple financial risks. It’s just not worth it.
