1950s Cottage

Our house! This has been a labor of love restoring our mid century cottage back to glory whilst updating it for contemporary living. It had been in the same family for the past 50 years when we purchased it and we were honoured to be the next custodians to breathe new life into it. We were determined to pay homage to the era of the building rather than trying to make it something it’s not - a contemporary new build.

  • The whole house! There aren’t many walls which are untouched in this place. We reconfigured the entire layout to maximise the living and kitchen space. By removing the original laundry from the house and extending to the rear of the garage we were able to create a new laundry and extend the kitchen internally. This allowed us to create a distinct hallway through to the master bedroom and create a fourth bedroom.

  • We bought this house to lovingly restore and eventually sell so another family can enjoy it. We wanted to bring it back to life and ensure it worked for contemporary living while paying homage to it’s post war era roots. When designing, the primary goal was to add as much natural light and cross ventilation as possible given the property faces north/south. The finishes are an eclectic mix of traditional farmhouse classic and playful colour. A nice reflection of us!
